VIVA NETWORK AFRICA NETWORK COORDINATOR TRAINING 2007

BACKGROUND TO TRAINING Networking is the only globally practical process that Viva Network Africa has been adopted to bring together child care agencies in Africa to focus on `children at risk` issues.

Objectives of training

· Create a platform for the Network Coordinators to respond to `children at risk` issues during the training · Raise awareness about the prevailing concerns of `children at risk` · Improve the quality of care for `children at risk` · Incorporate ICT into networking

Issues that need to be highlighted

1. The focus of the training should be `children at risk` in reference to the network coordinators 2. The network to be considered will be 12 in Africa 3. The type of networks will be the current ones that Viva Network Africa is involved with and has been working with a considerable period of time 4. The training shall be tailored to highlight `children at risk` issues and incorporation of ICTs to improve networking 5. Highlight the relevancy of ICTs in benefiting children and the Network Coordinators

Advise from other Workshop Participants 1. With the training done, aspects of retention of Network Coordinators should be planned for 2. The training should not only emphasize `children at risk` issues but should highlight other aspects of Networking 3. Assessment & Evaluation measures should be place 4. PLAN B – if the training is complete what package will be created that can be marketed to other donor agencies like UNICEF 5. Sustainability of the network coordinators should be considered 6. The ICT tools to be adopted for the training like Skype, Web 2.0 tools, Wikis, Blogs should be researched and packaged well to help the Network Coordinators improve their work 7. The training should be targeted to a specific group 8. Since Viva Network Africa is predominately Christian will Moslem children benefit 9. Will only the Harambee funding be sufficient to achieve all your capacity building initiatives 10. Will the trainers be local experts or foreign experts
