MAIN ACTIVITY Capacity building the Awareness Sharing Group Net work

Description

The Diary Project, through the Awareness Sharing Group Network (ASGN), engages male youths from child headed families to share knowledge in varying capacities that enable them assume their current and future socio-cultural, reproductive health and economic roles both at home and the community in a responsible manner. Each of these males represents a parish; and within each parish are five orphaned children though not necessarily child family heads. These children are the info-points within the parish. They are members of the network and share a common history of the fact that they are either affected by the HIV/AIDS scourge and/or infected. Through the ASGN, the children are able to share experiences pertaining to their day to day challenges and successes. The project now wants to tap the skill of these children so as to widen the project goals and scope to include the wider community.

Propose activities;

•Mobilization – this activity will purposely be conducted afore the Awareness Sharing Group Forums.

•Training – capacity building the network members to equip them with adequate skills to manage the network activities efficiently. Priority targeted topics derived from previous Awareness Sharing Forums include: -

   oICT & Knowledge Sharing Techniques to enable them conduct these activities more effectively 
   oUse of Telephony for personal development, to include the MTN Village Phone and Personal Hand held phones. Targeted skills within this are basic business development, customer care and marketing skills.
   oReproductive Health Rights1 which vie on the recognition of the basic rights of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health. 
   oDynamics of Team building and management. Tol enable and enhance cohesion within the network. Inclusive will be skills on conflict resolution, avoidance and management.

•Awareness Sharing Group Forums – are platforms where experience and innovation is shared. The targeted topics within this project will be four and derived from their training topics. They will include: -

  oRural ICT & Knowledge Sharing Techniques
  oUse of Telephony for personal development
  oReproductive Health Rights for a more responsible household head of tomorrow
  oDynamics of Team building and management to strengthen the network


Strategies

Introducing the use of ICTs to enhance knowledge sharing • Radio recorders • Village phones

Challenges

• Lack of adequate skills to conduct activities with larger group. • Little use of ICT despite awareness of its potential. • Limited community recognition as information guards.

Suggestions

•Explore opportunities for Net work members. •Its important to address the needs of the girl child and empower them.

Teach the children to fish and to provide them with fish as added income generating activity. • Look for other funders and partners to cover up.
