Why 'FLOSS Dgroups'?
The current Dgroups.org platform is coupling Lyris Mailing List Manager with a web interface constructed with the Cold Fusion programming language - all of this proprietary. It was Bellanet's long standing wish that the investment which was made to build Dgroups.org be more of a public one. The code can be released under the GPL license (or similar license), but if the components are not FLOSS and have high fees associated with them, then releasing the code as-is has little value.
Bellanet then switched its thinking to building a platform which works similarly to Dgroups.org, but with existing FLOSS technologies. Not only do we want the new platform to be FLOSS, but we want to ensure that it is web 2.0 ready, i.e. able to integrate with external services via open APIs and open standards.

What Has Happened (Recently)
We want 'Magic Groups' to work with an MLM (Sympa) instead of an MTA only for message handling. We will be doing this in stages.
